Challenge

The deluge fire protection systems on the Claymore Production Platform (CPP) had reached a point where continued maintenance was no longer a viable option. The existing deluge sets were showing clear signs of deterioration, including material erosion within sections of the pipework and widespread surface corrosion across the assemblies.

General fabric maintenance would not have provided a long-term solution. The condition of the equipment meant that reliability of the fire protection system could not be assured without a more substantial intervention. A full replacement of the deluge cabinets was therefore recommended to restore system integrity and ensure continued protection of critical platform areas.

For operators of offshore assets, maintaining dependable fire protection systems is essential for both safety and compliance. CPP required a robust and efficient solution that could be delivered to specification and within project timelines.

Solution

Blaze was engaged to design and supply replacement deluge skids to support the platform's fire protection zones.

Each skid was engineered around a Bermad FP 400Y-4D deluge valve assembly, providing coverage to the designated fire zones B1, B2, B3 and C1. The skids were designed as fully integrated assemblies, allowing efficient installation and dependable operation within the platform environment.

The deluge skid incorporates an actuated valve assembly designed for pneumatic actuation using the platform's instrument air system, along with the associated instrumentation mounted within the skid.

To support operational flexibility and safety, the system can be activated in multiple ways:

  • Remotely through the platform's Fire and Gas detection system
  • Via the pneumatic detection system
  • Locally through a manual release valve located on the deluge skid

This configuration ensures reliable activation of the fire suppression system whether triggered automatically or manually during an emergency.

Delivering confidence for critical assets

By replacing the deteriorating deluge sets with purpose built skids, Blaze delivered a modernised and reliable fire protection solution for the Claymore Production Platform. The new assemblies provide dependable coverage for the platform's fire zones while aligning with the operational requirements of the asset.
